My adventures with "Modern Medical Care"

  • Today's Abraham quote: Hypothetically, people worry about everyone being selfishly oriented. "If everyone did exactly what they want to do, what kind of world would this be?" And we say, a really, really good one. Because if everyone did what they wanted to do, everyone would feel free. And if you feel free, you feel empowered. And every negative emotion that exists—hear this—every negative emotion that exists is because there is some sense of loss of freedom somewhere in there.
  • Shameless plug: Watch for the publication of the Shape Shifter's Daily Diary, coming soon!

I recently acquired medical insurance, after six years of having none (I’ve been self-employed for that long). Jeff and I finally tied the knot after all these years and he has benefits. Therefore, I have now re-entered the world of "Modern Medicine."

For the past six years, I’ve been fortunate to not get seriously ill to the point where I needed to see a doctor, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t have some chronic “health issues” that need to be addressed. Therefore, I’ve spent the past several years working on body/mind/spirit healing for a couple reasons: 1) it makes more sense to me than allopathic medicine; and 2) it’s the only option I had. I credit this work for being as healthy as I am, but without a degree in naturopathy, there is only so much I can do for myself.

So imagine my surprise to see that things have changed a LOT in the last six years. When I last visited a doctor, I was able to make an appointment within a couple days of my call. When I last had to have tests done, I was treated like a human being, not a number. When I last talked to a doctor about my health concerns, I was listened to, instead of being made to feel like I was bothering them by wanting more than 30 seconds of their time.

You have probably experienced this, if you are currently involved in the maelstrom of modern medicine. You probably wonder how anyone can be so naïve about the way the world is now. You are probably resigned to the fact that this is just the way things are.

Keep in mind that I’m not complaining, necessarily. I’m making an observation from an “outsider’s” perspective. Watch this video to see how I've felt lately when entering the waiting rooms of various doctors’ offices and testing facilities.

I’m the milkman, and the woman is the promise of a concerned health practitioner. The final scene represents the looks on the faces of all the other poor saps I find in the overfilled waiting rooms.

I can’t wait for the day when the mainstream world catches up with the holistic world. Meantime, wish me luck as I wander the maze of madness that includes medically-trained cardiology staff that chats with each other about the diet pills they’re taking that make them too jittery to drink coffee.
